For a professional sports league that prides itself on being woke, the National Basketball Association is asleep at the wheel.
The NBA is under fire for capitulating to the Chinese government after Houston Rockets General Manager Daryl Morey tweeted a shout-out to the demonstrators in Hong Kong.
“Fight for Freedom. Stand with Hong Kong,” Morey wrote.
The Chinese were infuriated.
“We believe that any speech that challenges national sovereignty and social stability is not within the scope of freedom of speech,” read a statement from the country’s sports network.
Instead of telling the commies where to stick their Kung Pao chicken, the NBA threw Mr. Morey under the rickshaw. They said the general manager’s comments were extremely disappointing and inappropriate.
The NBA had a chance to take a bold stand for freedom but instead, they tossed up an air ball.
The league’s behavior stands in stark contrast to their passionate defense of the LGBTQIA and plus community.
In 2016 the NBA pulled the All-Star game out of Charlotte, North Carolina over the state’s decision to prevent grown men from using the same bathroom facilities as women and little girls.
The NBA fiercely defended men who identify as women, but they refuse to defend Hong Kong nationals who identify as freedom fighters.
There’s no mistaking the outright hypocrisy of their actions. When push comes to shove, the NBA bows down to the Chinese commies and the commode commies.
