Perkins Condemns Nudity at Seattle’s Pride Parade
Family Research Council President Tony Perkins blasted scenes from Seattle’s Pride festivities after videos showed nude adults, including cyclists, near children, telling Todd Starnes the spectacle was evidence of a culture in moral collapse. Watch the full interview below:
“Hell opened its doors for a day and a lot came out,” Perkins said on the Todd Starnes Show. “Who in the world took their children that had a half a brain to one of these parades?”
Fox News reported that one video showed “naked men cycling” as some spectators appeared to shield children’s eyes. The Source reported that signs carried by nude demonstrators read, “Nude ≠ Lewd,” “Free to be Naked” and “Nude is Nourishing.” Seattle police policy has stated that public nudity alone is not automatically criminal, though it can become indecent exposure if it causes “reasonable fear, alarm, or concern.”
Perkins said parents should not have been surprised by what they saw. “These people act like they’re shocked that they saw debauchery at a debauchery festival,” he said. “What do you expect?”
Supreme Court Hands Victory to Women’s Sports
Perkins also celebrated the Supreme Court’s ruling upholding laws in West Virginia and Idaho that keep males who identify as female out of girls’ and women’s sports.
“This is a victory for female athletes,” Perkins said, arguing that protections for women’s sports trace back to Title IX. “There’s a difference between men and women.”
Reuters reported the high court ruled the state laws do not violate Title IX, and the justices split 6-3 on the Equal Protection Clause question. Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote that “the States may maintain women’s and girls’ sports for biological females” and “may determine eligibility for women’s and girls’ sports based on biological sex.”
The court’s opinion said separate sports teams based on biological sex are “reasonable,” adding that such rules can “reduce the risk of physical injury and ensure fair competition.”
Perkins said the ruling was part of a broader cultural reckoning. “When you depart from truth and common sense, you’re not gonna come to a solution until you backtrack,” he said.
Texas Brings Bible Back to the Classroom
Perkins ended the interview by praising the Texas State Board of Education’s decision to require Bible stories and passages in public-school reading lists.
“You cannot really understand our culture without having biblical literacy,” Perkins said. “You cannot understand America’s foundation and what it means to be an American without having a working knowledge of the Bible.”
The Associated Press reported Bible stories will become required reading for more than 5 million Texas public-school students, with the changes set to begin taking effect in 2030. Supporters say Judeo-Christian teachings are foundational to America, while critics argue the policy favors Christianity.
The Texas Tribune reported the board approved the required Christian readings on a 9-4 party-line vote. The list includes Adam and Eve, the Beatitudes and the Parable of the Prodigal Son. One supporter, Dawn Hatley, testified, “We’re helping raise young men and women who love truth, pursue wisdom and recognize God’s hand throughout history and human experience.”
Perkins said he applauded school districts “moving the Bible back in.”
