DEVELOPING STORY: Thousands of people turned out in Los Angeles and Beverly Hills to show their support for the nation of Israel. People stood on sidewalks waving Israeli flags and American flags. Motorists passing by honked their horns in affirmation.
“I can’t stop crying,” Irit Ofry, who attended the rally, told ABC News. “It’s my country. I’m here, but it’s my country, it’s my people.”
“We’re here to support our country. We have a right to exist — as a people, as Jews,” Chantal Ifrah said at the rally. “We take up this much of the world”, she said,” making a gesture with her hand to indicate a small amount.
“We want to come together, we want to be together, we want to hug each other. We want to comfort each other at this time of just heart-wrenching grief,” Elan Carr, the CEO of the Israeli American Council, told television station KTLA. “But the other reason is that we are here to stand unequivocally with Israel and to stand for Israel’s inalienable right to defend itself fully, completely and decisively and that’s critical.”
Some of the demonstrators said their relatives were among the hundreds of thousands of reservists called up by the Israel Defense Forces, ABC News reported.
“We’re texting a lot, and at the moment I think most of my friends and family are safe,” said Jean Louis Velaise. “But those that are being deployed will go into harm’s way.”
I’m ashamed of what I’ve seen in many places regarding the support of these terrorists. I am also happy to see those rallying and standing with Israel as well. This was here in Los Angeles yesterday👏🏼🇮🇱 Proud of my city for this. pic.twitter.com/05AnMnAIhy— Freaky Deaky🇺🇸🇮🇱 (@dooscarfox) October 10, 2023
