DEVELOPING STORY: President-elect Donald Trump has named former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee as the new U.S. Ambassador to Israel. Click here to get my breaking news alerts.
“I am pleased to announce that the Highly Respected former Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee, has been nominated to be The United States Ambassador to Israel,” Trump said in a statement. “Mike has been a great public servant, Governor, and Leader in Faith for many years. He loves Israel, and the people of Israel, and likewise, the people of Israel love him. Mike will work tirelessly to bring about Peace in the Middle East!”
Huckabee is a longtime Baptist minister – and a pro-Israel Evangelical Christian.
His daughter, Sarah, is the governor of Arkansas and she posted this message on X today:
Unbelievably proud that @realdonaldtrup nominated my dad govmikehuckabee to be US Ambassador to Israel. I went to Israel for the first time with my dad when I was eleven and it changed my life. There is no one President Trump could have picked with a greater love for the Israeli people and commitment to the unbreakable bond between America and Israel than him. Love you dad.
Tennessee Congressman David Kustoff – who is Jewish – saluted President Trump as being a pro-Israel president and called Huckabee a strong and staunch supporter of Israel.
And what a message Trump is sending to our most important ally. Israel becomes the first ambassadorship he names. This after the Biden and Obama administration treated Israel like second class citizens.
Gov. Huckabee will make a fine ambassador and the nation of Israel will have a true friend in their corner.
