USA Built on White Supremacy, Says University of Arizona Honors College

J.D. Hayworth, the former Arizona congressman and radio host, told the “Todd Starnes Show” on Wednesday that when he was in college– about 40 years ago– a black professor once told him that he was born a racist because he is white.

Hayworth told the story to illustrate that indoctrination on college campuses is not all that new.

He said he just received a letter from the leadership at the University of Arizona Honors College in Tucson and was disturbed by a portion of the note that brought up the country’s history.

“This country is built on a foundation of systemic racism, discrimination and white supremacy,” the letter read, he said. He said the next sentence said that the school’s “collective goal is to dismantle systems that perpetuate racism, discrimination and white supremacy.”

Hayworth said letter is based on the “sloganeering of the streets and community agitators” and not actual history. He asked what exactly the school meant when it stated that it wants to “dismantle” these systems.

“Does that mean our society, our government, our churches and other houses of worship?” he asked.

Hayworth called the letter ironic because the lead sentence of the college’s mission statement is, “At the Arizona Honors College, we commit and aspire to create and foster a diverse and inclusive climate where scholars of all backgrounds are welcomed, safe and valued.”

Hayworth referred back to the letter and said the school may want to amend its mission statement. Black Students and Allies at the school wrote in the letter, “A letter that lacks compassion is not good enough. An Instagram post that lacks compassion is not good enough. Empty words and promises are not good enough. Avoidance and silence absolutely disrespectful and not good enough.”

He said the letter makes it clear that if you attend the school and disagree with the idea that the country is founded on racism and white supremacy, you will be labeled a racist and told to shut up.

Todd Starnes, the host of the radio program, pointed to an African-American museum in Washington, D.C., that issued a pamphlet to alert museumgoers to whiteness and white culture and said it seems that American culture itself is being attacked.

“You don’t find perfection by trying to redefine terms and claiming that diversity is exclusion,” Hayworth said.
