The final mayoral debate is tonight in New York City and many terrified New Yorkers are ready to hit the panic button.
The most recent poll shows Democrat Zohran Mamdani with a commanding lead over Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Sliwa.
Mamdani at 43.2 percent in the AARP/Gotham Polling survey. Cuomo is running as an independent. He’s polling at 28.9 percent and Republican Curtis Sliwa is dead last at 19.4 percent. But in a two-man race – the poll found that Cuomo is just four points behind Mamdani.
And that’s why many Republicans are begging Sliwa to drop out of the race. But the founder of the Guardian Angels says he’s not going to drop out under any circumstances.
Wealthy New Yorkers are no doubt applying pressure – Bill Ackman posting on X that Sliwa is just staying in the race for $5 million in matching funds from the city for his campaign.
The wealthy and powerful suggesting that Sliwa will hand the race to Mamdani.
Of course – another argument could be made that it is Cuomo who is the spoiler. A man tainted by sex scandals – atrocities that drove him from office under the threat of criminal prosecution. Not to mention accusations that his Covid-era policies led to the deaths of many elderly New Yorkers. It was Cuomo who was trounced in the Democrat primary – and decided to run again as an Independent.
Still – in a city where there are 3.3 million registered Democrats and less than 600,000 Republicans – would it have been possible for Sliwa to attract Democrat voters?
As it now stands – New York City is on the verge of electing a 33-year-old Democrat who some are accusing of being a Communist and a jihadist – chief among them – Republican Congresswoman Elise Stefanik.
Mamdani drew fierce outrage from Republicans AND Democrats when he deflected a question about whether Hamas should lay down arms and step aside in Gaza.
Stefanik unleashed on social media writing calling Mamdani a “jihadist who will destroy New York.”
“I call Zohran Mamdani a jihadist because he is. Zohran Mamdani is a raging antisemite. Mamdani is the definition of a jihadist as he supports Hamas terrorists which he did as recently as yesterday when he refused to call for Hamas terrorists to put down their arms – the same Hamas terrorist group that slaughtered civilians including New Yorkers on October 7, 2023. He is Kathy Hochul’s endorsed jihadist Communist who she has empowered to destroy New York City. It’s why the New York State Democrat Party Chair refuses to support him. It’s why multiple Democrat Members of Congress refuse to support him. It’s why Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries have still not endorsed him. Because Zohran is a jihadist who will destroy New York.”
Rep. Randy Fine (R-FL), a strong defender of Israel, said the Democrat nominee is “little more than a Muslim terrorist.”
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt took it a step further and said Mamdani’s comments showed that the Democrat Party was catering to “Hamas terrorists, illegal aliens and violent criminals.”
New York Times opinion writer Bret Stephens penned an essay this week titled, “Why Mamdani Frightens Jews Like Me.”
He stopped short of calling him antisemitic – but he did point out that Mamdani penned a rap song professing his love for The Holy Land Foundation – a charity convicted in 2008 of funneling $12 million to Hamas.
And most recently – a photo surfaced showing Mamdani embracing an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. Mamdani was grinning ear to ear.
Mamdani’s spokesperson condemned the attacks and said his critics were Islamophobic, xenophobic and dangerous.
