Don Lemon, 56, set off women across the country, including his own co-hosts, with his comments on “CNN This Morning” regarding what a woman’s “prime” is.
With Nikki Haley, 51, announcing her presidential bid, positive and negative reactions have been pouring in.

At a recent rally in South Carolina, Haley said that as president she would propose term limits and mandatory mental competency tests for politicians over the age of 75:
.@NikkiHaley: “In the America I see, the permanent politician will finally retire. We’ll have term limits for Congress & mandatory mental competency test for anyone over 75 yrs old. Most of all, I see a strong America b/c I see a proud America. Strong & proud, not weak & woke.” pic.twitter.com/ktdxR8MIQ4

“Nikki Haley isn’t in her prime,” Lemon said in reaction. “A woman is considered to be in her prime in her 20’s, 30’s, and maybe 40’s.”
His CNN co-hosts pushed Lemon to get more specific on what he meant by “prime.”
He told them to look it up on Google and said that Haley needs to be careful saying politicians shouldn’t serve past their prime because “she wouldn’t be her prime.”

Haley responded on Twitter.
“Liberals can’t stand the idea of having competency tests for older politicians to make sure they can do the job,” she said. “BTW it’s always the liberals who are the most sexist.”
After significant backlash, Lemon was forced to respond.
“The reference I made to a woman’s ‘prime’ this morning was inartful and irrelevant, as colleagues and loved ones have pointed out, and I regret it,” Lemon tweeted. “A woman’s age doesn’t define her either personally or professionally. I have countless women in my life who prove that every day.”
Many pointed out online that Lemon failed to mention Haley by name or even apologize or say “sorry” for what he told CNN viewers.
