Jim Gardner is a legendary helicopter pilot in Oklahoma and now he’s gone viral. Gardner was covering a violent outbreak of tornadoes near Oklahoma City when his chopper was pounded by baseball-sized hail. The hail busted out the cockpit window and the harrowing moments were all captured on video and audio.
“We are beat the hell up,” Gardner, who was covering the tornado for KWTV, can be heard saying.
“I ain’t out of the damn helicopter yet,” he says.
At least two people died and dozens of homes and businesses were damaged by the storms. The National Weather Service reports at least nine tornadoes struck the area.
