7.3 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Japan, Tsunami Warning Issued

A powerful 7.3 magnitude earthquake rocked the coast of Fukushima in northern Japan and shook Tokyo Wednesday, setting off a tsunami alert and putting millions out of power.

The quake struck 36 miles below the sea, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

NHK national TV reports that the tsunami might have reached some areas already as a tsunami advisory was issued in parts of the Miyagi and Fukushima prefectures with up to a 3-foot sea surge.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
