DEVELOPING STORY: Sirens are sounding across Israel as dozens of missiles exploded in the southern and central parts of the country.

Palestinian militants in the Gaza Strip have launched dozens of rockets toward Israel, setting off air raid sirens across the country. The sound of outgoing rockets whooshing through the air could be heard in Gaza.

There are reports of direct hits on Israeli homes in Tel Aviv and Ashkelon, and possibly casualties, according to some social media accounts.
The Jerusalem Post reports that incoming rockets were reported in southern areas surrounding Gaza, Negev regions, and in the greater Tel Aviv area early on Saturday. Explosions could be heard in cities around Tel Aviv and outside Jerusalem.
Israeli Defense Forces released a statement:
“In the last half hour, rockets have been fired from the Gaza Strip into Israel territory. The public in southern and central Israel are urged to stay near protected areas and follow the instructions of the Home Front Command.”
