The Chinese Communist Party released its own heretical revision of a famous Bible story, making Jesus a killer with “core socialist values,” according to Voice of the Martyrs.
China released a disturbing rewriting of the gospel of John to high school students in Sept. 2020, according to the Christian persecution watchdog.
“Jesus once said to the angry crowd who has trying to stone a woman who had sinned, ‘He who is without sin among you, let him cast a stone at her.’ When his words came to their ears, they stopped moving forward. When everyone went out, Jesus stoned the woman himself, and said, ‘I am also a sinner.’“
VOM said, “This malicious distortion seriously misrepresents and defiles the image of Jesus Christ in Christianity.”
The CCP updated the Bible to “keep pace with the times” and removed portions of scripture that don’t reflect communist beliefs.
Voice of the Martyrs USA shared a side-by-side comparison of the ESV version and the CCP version on Instagram in a campaign to pray for China during the Winter Olympic Games in Beijing.
“Hundreds of churches have been forced to close, pastors and church members have been arrested or detained, and the online sale of Bibles has been prohibited,” VOM write. “A campaign to remove crosses from churches continues in one province. The government has installed more than 170 million facial recognition cameras, many in or near churches, in an effort to identify those who attend worship services.”
More than 20,000 people from at least 146 countries have committed to pray for China on VOM’s website.
