Japan’s Former Prime Minister Assassinated

UPDATE: Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, Shinzo Abe, died after being shot during a campaign speech Friday. He was 67.

Former President Trump paid tribute to Abe, a conservative who left office in 2020, on Truth Social:

“Really BAD NEWS FOR THE WORLD! Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is dead. He was assassinated. His killer was captured and will hopefully be dealt with swiftly and harshly. Few people know what a great man and leader Shinzo Abe was, but history will teach them and be kind. He was a unifier like no other, but above all, he was a man who loved and cherished his magnificent country, Japan. Shinzo Abe will be greatly missed. There will never be another like him! President Donald J. Trump”

BREAKING: Former Japanese PM Shinzo Abe gravely injured in apparent shooting during campaign speech, public broadcaster NHK reports. Video shows a gunman firing a shot into the back of the former prime minister. See below. Click here to join Todd’s private Facebook page for conservatives.

UPDATE: Video shows Abe holding his chest when he collapsed, with his shirt smeared with blood. NHK says Abe was rushed to a hospital.

Abe was in Nara campaigning ahead of Sunday’s election for the parliament’s upper house and was giving a speech when people heard a gunshot.

Police arrested a male suspect at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder, NHK said.

The attack was a shock in a country that’s one of the world’s safest and with some of the strictest gun control laws anywhere.
