At least two people were hauled away by police after law enforcement officers tried to enter a diner that was illegally opened in Fresno, California.
The diners were waiting in line outside the Waffle Shop. Officers ordered the diners to step aside so they could enter the establishment. When they refused, the officers forcefully shoved aside patrons. It was during that confrontation that at least two people were taken into custody.
Jim Fisher filmed the incident and posted video on Facebook.
“Disgraceful on Mother’s Day,” he wrote.
The owner of the Waffle Shop had decided to reopen his business over the weekend in defiance of local leaders.
On Thursday the city’s code enforcement department warned Ammar Ibrahim that he could face closure, criminal prosecution, revocation of his business license, fines and other legal action if he continued to allow guests to dine inside his diner.
“It’s not about money. It’s more about principles and rights and getting back to the way life’s supposed to be,” Mr. Ibrahim told Fox26.

The television station reports that diners were socially distanced and staff members wore masks to comply with CDC guidelines.
However, on Friday he was slapped with a $1,000 fine. And the city warns the fines could increase to $10,000.
And a few minutes after the ticket was issued – the restaurant’s water supply slowed to a trickle.
The City of Fresno says it had nothing to do with the water being shut off, Fox26 reports.
Councilmember Garry Bredefeld, a critic of the city’s orders, was among the lunch guests at the Waffle Shop that day.
“I was elected to represent the people. We all swore on oath to the Constitution, to support and defend the Constitution from all foreign enemies, and all domestic enemies. These guys have betrayed their oath. They betrayed their constituents, and they tore up the constitution.”
