Disney’s first animated feature film with a gay teen romance flopped in box offices over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

“Strange World” only made $18.6 million during its five-day holiday weekend opening, despite Disney’s projection that the film would make nearly $40 million, per National Review.
Yahoo called the opening “among the worst openings for Disney animation in recent memory,” and the Daily Wire reports the film needs to garner $350 million just to break even.
The movie’s poor performance has been hailed the “worst” opening of a Disney movie during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in “modern times.”

“That’s the worst opening for a Disney Animation Thanksgiving title in modern times after getting pummeled by poor word-of-mouth, and the first of the studio’s to earn anything less than an A- grade from CinemaScore,” the Hollywood reporter said of the Disney film.
The film also received harsh reviews on Twitter.
Patrick Bet-David, a popular podcaster, recalled taking his kids to the movie and leaving shortly after it started.
“Took the kids to the movies today to watch a Disney cartoon called “Strange World”. Within 10 minutes of the movie, my 10 year old son said ‘Dad, I have no desire to watch this movie. Can we leave?’ We left. The leaders at @Disney have forgotten who the PAYING customer is,” Bet-David wrote.

political commentator Rob Smith criticized the film saying most adults aren’t bothered by LGBT themes, but they don’t want “propaganda” in children’s movies.
