Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) claimed Sunday that without the platform of racial justice dubbed “wokeness,” Democrats would surely lose races.
Ocasio-Cortez’s comment was directed at Democrat strategist James Carville after he warned that the “woke problem” in the Democrat party caused the losses in the 2021 races.
“One dangerous aspect of thinking there’s a ‘woke problem’ is that Dem chances for re-election or majorities in House, Senate, & WH rely on the racial justice issue of voting rights,” AOC tweeted. “Dems distancing from racial justice makes protection of voting rights less likely, ensuring losses.”
The New York representative defined “woke” as a derogatory term for “civil rights & justice.” She said the term is used primarily by older people to trick left-leaning voters into thinking that racial justice is controversial.
According to Daily Wire, Cortez claimed that only politicians like Carville and Fox News reporters use the word “woke.” She believes the use of the word is to insult young voters.
“People think Fox News is just about indoctrinating right-wingers, but it’s also about conditioning Democrats on what to run away from,” she said. “Framing racial justice as ‘controversial’ is key to delaying the protection of voting rights (& others) until it’s too late. We shouldn’t indulge it.”
Carville, known as the “Ragin’ Cajun,” made the comments on “PBS NewHour” about the GOP’s shocking victories in Virginia and New Jersey.
“[W]hat went wrong is just stupid wokeness,” said Carville. “Don’t just look at Virginia and New Jersey. Look at Long Island, look at Buffalo, look at Minneapolis, even look at Seattle, Wash. I mean, this ‘defund the police’ lunacy, this takes Abraham Lincoln’s name off of schools. I mean that — people see that.”

“It’s just really — has a suppressive effect all across the country on Democrats. Some of these people need to go to a ‘woke’ detox center or something,” Carville continued. “They’re expressing a language that people just don’t use, and there’s backlash and a frustration at that.”
According to Breitbart, Cortez bashed Carville for taking his opinions from Fox News “echo chamber.”
