Crowley: FBI Spy Allegations Make Watergate Look Like a ‘Walk in the Park’
Fox News Commentator Monica Crowley joined the Todd Starnes Show to discuss the recent leaks from the White House involving the FBI as well as the impact the truth of the allegations would have on the image of the bureau.
The discussion came after allegations surfaced that the FBI–and perhaps even the CIA–planted a human spy in the Trump campaign during the 2016 presidential election.
If true, Crowley said the FBI’s use of a human spy would be a “blockbuster.”
“This would go way beyond the electronic surveillance we have been talking about to this point, the abuse of FISA warrants, the listening in on conversations, General Flynn, and so on, this goes way beyond that,” Crowley said. “If the FBI implanted a human being…to rat back to them on what Trump and his team were doing during the campaign and the transition and maybe even the presidency, this takes this scandal to whole other level.”
“This makes Watergate look like a ‘walk in the park,'” she added.
Crowley said if the allegations are true, the use of a spy is “probably the greatest scandal in American history–certainly in recent history.”
She continued, “…it shows that the FBI–the chief law enforcement agency in the country–where justice is supposed to be blind, equal application of the law, and not be abused for political ends…breaks all kinds of laws.”
Crowley called the reported use of a human spy to gather intelligence on the Trump campaign a “evisceration of our norms and a decimation of American democracy and the rule of law.”
She concluded by noting that the question “everyone should be asking” is how much ousted FBI Director James Comey knew of possible use of a human spy, and how much former President Barack Obama knew as well.
