Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Dr. Anthony Fauci traded barbs Tuesday during a hearing on Capitol Hill.
Paul called out Fauci for his emails but he tried to dodge the questions the day after Project Veritas released a bombshell report contradicting Fauci’s testimony to Congress on gain-of-function research in China.
“Do you really think it’s appropriate to use your $420,000 salary to attack science that doesn’t agree with you?” Paul asked, also pointing out that more people have died under President Biden than under former President Trump.
“You’re the one responsible. You are the architect. You are the lead architect for the response from the government and now 800,000 people have died,” Paul said.
“If look at everything I’ve said, you accuse me in a monolithic way, telling people what they need to do. Everything that I’ve said has been in support of the CDC guidelines. Wear a mask, get boosted, get vaccinated,” Fauci responded.
“You’ve advocated that [your opinion] be done by mandate — your infallible opinion be dictated by law,” Paul said.
Fauci claimed he was a victim.
“This happens every time,” Fauci said. “You have attacked me without a shred of evidence for anything you say … He is doing this for political reasons.”
The White House chief medical advisor accused Paul of profiting off the pandemic with a call to “Fire Dr. Fauci” on his campaign website.
