A majority of voters support former President Trump’s position banning transgender athletes from competing in women’s sports, according to a new survey.
Nationally syndicated radio host Todd Starnes opined, “A majority of voters agree with Trump. Men have no place in women’s sports.”
The POLITICO/Morning Consult poll, conducted March 6-8, shows broad support for the ban, including men, women, and independents.
The only two groups with slightly more opposition are Democrats and Gen Z, but 53% of registered voters support the ban versus a third that oppose it, Politico reports.
Men: 59% support ban, 29% oppose
Women: 46% support ban, 34% oppose
Republicans: 74% support ban, 15% oppose
Democrats: 40% support ban, 42% oppose
Independents: 49% support ban, 33% oppose
Gen Z: 43% support ban, 44% oppose
Millennials: 56% support ban, 28% oppose
Baby Boomers: 50% support ban, 32% oppose
Politico credits Trump for the broad support, noting the Republican leader spoke out against transgender athletes in female sports during his CPAC address.
“Joe Biden and the Democrats are even pushing policies that would destroy women sports,” Trump said.
“Young girls and women are incensed that they are now being forced to compete against those who are biological males,” he said. “It’s not good for women. It’s not good for women’s sports which worked for so long and so hard to get to where they are.”
Trump concluded: “If this does not change, women’s sports as we know it will die.”
Matt Schlapp, the chairman of the American Conservative Union, told the Todd Starnes Radio Show Trump had the highest approval rating this year, topping off at 97%.
