It’s time for another choice, said national radio host and best-selling author Todd Starnes.
Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) has already lost at least eight rounds of votes for Speaker of the House and there is gridlock.
“If Kevin McCarthy is not the guy, then who is it? There is one person. Steve Scalise is not as conservative as Kevin McCarthy is. Jim Jordan doesn’t want the job,” Starnes said Thursday.
“There is only one person who can fix all of this and his name is Donald John Trump,” he said. “There’s only one person who can drain the House Swamp.”
“What if for the next 100 days Donald Trump was installed to get the Republicans’ House in order?” Starnes said.
Trump doesn’t want the speakership, according to sources, but Starnes said it’s time to get a grassroots movement so he will consider it.
Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) nominated Trump in rounds seven and eight.
Trump ally Steve Bannon posited the theory earlier in the day to break the deadlock to break the crisis brought on by McCarthy.
“My vote right now is why not Trump?” Bannon said. “If you got to have a nasty piece of work to ruin negotiating, give me the nastiest, and Trump in a negotiation is a beast…why not Trump?”
“Trump for Speaker” began trending on Twitter Thursday.
At least 20 conservative GOP members of Congress have voted against McCarthy, and Rep. Victoria Spartz (R-IN) voted present.
