Rep. Doug Collins, R-Ga., told the “Todd Starnes Show” on Wednesday that Attorney General William Barr’s testimony in front of the House Judiciary Committee was an embarrassment for Democrats and a complete waste of taxpayer dollars.
“All they wanted to do was hear themselves talk and try to run over an attorney general who just absolutely took everything and threw it right back at them,” he said.
Barr’s testimony was widely praised by Republicans—and even more telling—pushed to the side by many in the mainstream media.
Collins, a member of the committee, told Barr during the hearing that it appeared Democrat lawmakers were contorting themselves in all kinds of positions in an attempt to show that he harbored some kind of nefarious motives. Since Barr has taken the role, Democrats have tried to make it seem that he is nothing but a lapdog for Trump.

Collins went viral when he asked Barr if he believed the committee would respond if protesters just decided to “paint the Capitol Building.” Barr responded, “This body? I’m not sure.”
Barr’s response prompted laughter and Collins continued, “Maybe the peaceful protesters decide to burn down the Capitol, maybe we’re back to 1812 again.”
Collins told Todd Starnes, the host of the radio show, that it was remarkable to watch Democrats be completely stumped by Barr’s responses about the violent protests, use of federal agents in cities and his intervention in the Roger Stone case.

“It was really sad what we saw yesterday done to the nation’s top law enforcement officer,” Collins said. But Collins said Democrats have good reason to try and damage Barr and raise questions about his integrity.
“He is tearing down the smoke and mirrors of the last 18 months of the sham impeachment because they know once he’s done that, their house of cards is gone and the emporer has no clothes.”
Starnes said one of the most important news items from the hearing was Barr’s revelation that he appointed a prosecutor to investigate Michael Flynn’s ‘unmasking’ by top Obama officials.
“This is what an attorney general who’s competent does,” Collins said.
