Oakland Mayor Obstructed Justice by Tipping Off Illegals, Says Rep. McClintock
Oakland mayor Libby Shaaf obstructed justice when she tipped off illegal aliens about an ICE raid and if she broke the law she should be prosecuted, Rep. Tom McClintock told the Todd Starnes Radio Show.
“She did obstruct justice in my opinion,” the California Republican said. “According to ICE she made it possible for as many as 864 criminal aliens – already convicted of serious crimes – and ordered deported – to escape.”
The Justice Department is already reviewing the mayor’s actions.
Schaff told NPR the city’s “law-abiding immigrants and families … deserve to live free from the constant threat of arrest and deportation” and she considered it her “duty and moral obligation as Mayor to give those families fair warning when that threat appears imminent.”
McClintock was infuriated by the mayor’s lawlessness – pointing out her actions put gang members and other violent criminals back on the streets.
“She placed our ICE officers in mortal peril – as they faced down these criminals who were forewarned and forearmed,” the congressman said on my radio show.
McClintock called the mayor’s actions “absolutely toxic to the rule of law and to the principles of federalism.”
He said some of the illegals were charged with sex crimes against minors and battery against police officers.
“People like that are on our streets today because of what the Oakland mayor did,” he said. “If that violated the law, she should be prosecuted. If that did not violate the law – we need a new law.”
