Photographer Amy Haehl came up with a clever Christmas photo shoot the other day. She was inspired by two specific scenes in the beloved holiday classic, “A Christmas Story.
She photographed a baby dressed in a pink bunny suit while holding a toy air rifle. It was an homage to Ralphie and his quest to get a Red Ryder Carbine Action 200-shot Range Model air rifle.
Little did Ms. Haehl, from Shelbyville, Indiana, realize her Christmas-themed picture would generate so much outrage. Some folks were offended that the baby was photographed with a gun.
Bah, Humbug!
“The intention of this photo was to bring a smile to people’s faces and remind them of a time when life was much more simple and we were more focused on the important things in life,” Ms. Haehl explained on her Facebook page. “I want those who see it to remember life back when it was simple and families were more connected and we didn’t have to worry about many of the things facing us today that will affect this generation and generations to come.”
She said the photo is not about a baby posed with a “gun.”
“It is about love, tradition, family, and happiness,” she wrote.
