Hundreds of U.S. troops will be headed to the southern border to help the Department of Homeland Security and National Guard troops stop the so-called migrant caravan, a U.S. official confirmed to Fox News.
President Trump warned that MS-13 gang members and possible Middle Eastern terrorists had infiltrated the migrant caravan.
President Trump tweeted Thursday morning that “I am bringing out the military for this National Emergency. They will be stopped!”
At least 800 troops will provide logistical support, officials tell Fox News.
“We just got the request last night, details are still being worked out,” the official says.
Defense Secretary Mattis is expected to sign the deployment orders as soon as today.
