A moment of silence for victims of the synagogue shooting in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania was interrupted by leftist protesters at a rally for Tennessee Republican Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn.

Wanting to honor the memory of the 11 people killed at the Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in an apparent anti-Semitic attack, Blackburn called on those present to observe a moment of silence for the victims.

But a group of protesters interrupted the moment of silence, and began to shout at her and her supporters.

“Who have you ever heard of who is so insensitive and so filled with vitriol that they would begin a protest during a moment of silence?” Blackburn said during an appearance on the Todd Starnes Radio Show Monday. “I was so taken aback.”

Blackburn said that seven of the protesters were apprehended by police and “removed from the premises,” and three of them were booked.

“This just unbelievable that there would be this kind of conduct,” she said.

Blackburn is locked in a tight race with former Tennessee Governor Phil Bredesen, in what has been a historically Republican state.

“This is the kind of thing that needs to stop,” Blackburn said, referring to the behavior of the protesters. “This is the United States of America, you settle your differences at the ballot box.”

Blackburn says she will continue to fight for what she believes is right, “faith, family freedom, hope, and opportunity.”

“Those are those first principles, those foundational elements that we want to get right,” she said. “We want to preserve the American dream, and the ability of our children and grandchildren to experience that.”

The sitting U.S. Congresswoman reminded listeners of the words of former President Ronald Reagan, that “we do not pass freedom along in the bloodstream” and that “every generation has to fight for it.”
